Linda Barter - Case Study
Chiropractic Injury 1997
It is now 5 years since my injury occurred, I am
now 47 years old.
After suffering pains over my eyes for a long
while I was advised by a relative to go to a Chiropractor. I found a
Registered Chiropractor local to me in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands and
booked an appointment.
I was examined and within 10 minutes was told that
I had 2 'bones' out of place in my neck which was causing the pain as the
'bones' were pressing on the vortex hence sending shockwaves over the top of
my head giving pain behind the eyes. The treatment was 'cracking' my neck
until there was an audible sound of a crack which is known as High Velocity
Manipulation (HVMs).
After four sessions of 'cracking', I then began to
have bad pain in my neck which I had not experienced before. I told the
Chiropractor but was assured that all would be well eventually. The pain
became worse so I went to my G.P. who was not very interested as I was seeing
a Chiropractor. I returned to the Chiropractor, the 'cracking' continued, the
pain got worse, I had no where else to go. I asked the Chiropractor for an MRI
scan which they organised, the scan DID NOT show 'bones out of place' only
'minute spondylotic change' which was expected in a woman of my age. I had an
Orthopaedic opinion of this and it was confirmed that the pain was not coming
from this diagnosis.
I visited Orthopaedics and Pain Relief Specialists
who put me under General Anaesthetic twice to try to find out what was wrong,
to no avail.
On one occasion I dragged myself to the clinic
begging them to get my neck right, I had forgotten about the eye pain this was
now a minor problem. I returned home in such a state that my neck would not
hold my head up. For two weeks I had to support my head on the back of the
settee all day. On returning home I was terrified and sobbing my heart out. I
rang the clinic crying and told the Chiropractor what was happening and asked '
what should I do ' the answer was' I DON'T KNOW ' , I could not believe it. I
did not leave the house for two weeks and they (Chiropractors) never contacted
me.
After seven months of assurances and being
out of pocket I never returned to the Chiropractor. My G.P. was not interested
and we spent nearly ££ in specialist fees and treatment.
